Day 38 Sweat that Cold Out!

Hot and Humid Speeds up the Recovery

You’ve heard about the starve a cold and feed a fever, or maybe it’s the other way around. Regardless, I find one of the best ways to alleviate that stuffy head and runny nose is to spend a little time in an overheated steam sauna.

To me these look more like pressure cookers than individual steam saunas. Isn’t part of the therapeutic benefit of a sauna the conversation with random strangers? Geez, not even a window…

Now most of us don’t have one of these in our house, so in the absence of such luxuries…us common folk need to make use of those common facilities at the pool or gym. Crank up the heat, bring a towel and sweat it all out.

The Romans prescribed their hot pools as a remedy for almost everything. Maybe overprescribed for some conditions, but whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger…right? We all know from the History Channel that it was mainly volcanoes, torrid affairs and overzealous emperors that kept the population in check…not the common cold…so they must have been onto something.

So skip the chicken noodle soup, put on some pants and get some steam into those lungs.
